SAMPLE POEM 1When a Cop Stops You

When a cop stops you,
what can you do?

Grab your leg and moan in pain?

I would if I could
but I know I would laugh.
So I sit there, waiting,
shrinking fast,
humble, quiet.
Stupid. Sweet.

When the cop walks up,
I stare at his feet.
I give him my papers.
I listen. I nod.
When he lets me go –

Thank God.

SAMPLE POEM 2Bubble Troubles

I'm in trouble with my bubbles.
I put a double answer-
A and D-
down for #10
accidentally.
Could've been an easy fix.
It should've been an easy fix,
if I'd caught it right away,
but I'm on #36.
I'm erasing the wrong answers,
bubbling in one line below,
and I've got an awful lot of painful
bubbling left to go.
And a queasy feeling's filling up
my mouth and throat and chest.
What would happen if I happened
to vomit on the test?
