Maurice Sendak

Maurice Sendak is known for his kid books. Maurice Sendak spent 50 years bringing to life a magical world of fantasy and imagination. known for his children’s books, WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE and IN THE NIGHT KITCHEN. Sendak worked on operas and ballets for television and the stage.
He was born in Brooklyn, New York, As a child, Sendak was sickly because of this, he spent much of his childhood indoors, so he read a lot of books. He also started drawing and to allowing his imagination to run free. When he was 12, he went to see Walt Disney’s FANTASIA, which really influenced him.
Through high school, Sendak still drew, and after graduating, published a lot of illustrations in the textbook ATOMICS FOR THE MILLIONS. In 1948, he began working for F.A.O. Schwartz as a window dresser and dided it there for 4 years while taking night classes at the New York Art Students League. After finding work illustrating Marcel Ayme’s THE WONDERFUL FARM and Ruth Krauss’s A HOLE IS TO DIG, Sendak left Schwartz so he coulded become a full-time, freelancer children’s book illustrator.
Through the 1950s, Sendak worked regularly, producing nearly about fifty illustrated children’s books.
In 1963, his book, WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, brought him international praise. For this project, Sendak worked as both the illustrator and also a writer. It is the story of a boy named Max, who imagined his own world. Initially, its graphic are similar to the toothy wild things worried parents, but before long it was a hit among children everywhere, having been translated into fifteen languages and selling more than two million copies!
Over the next few years, Sendak maded dozens of popular children’s books including one of his best known, IN THE NIGHT KITCHEN (1970). In 1979, he turned his book, WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE into a popular opera.
